Soumya keen to maintain his golden run in ODI series

After hitting a match-winning hundred in the practice game on Thursday for the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) XI against West Indies at Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishthan (BKSP) ground on Thursday, Soumya Sarkar said he is keen to bring his golden form to one-dayers.

The southpaw was struggling to keep his place in the squad cemented. He got a lifeline during the Asia Cup when he earned a sudden call to the national side due to the lean performance of the top-order batsmen. But, Soumya failed to utilise the chance as he scored 33 in two outings with a duck to his name.

The left-handed opener earned another unexpected call during the Zimbabwe one-dayers last month, and he grabbed the chance hitting a ton in Chattogram that helped the Tigers to chase a total of 286 with 47 balls to play.

“I always have a dream to play big innings, but the things are not same in every time I go to the middle. I’ll try to maintain the current form in the forthcoming series. If I get selected for the best XI, I’ll try to play the way I did today (Thursday),” Soumya said after beating the Caribbean boys by 51 runs in BKSP via the DLS method.

The 25-year-old lad believes that the victory chasing more than 300 runs will help them in the one-day series beginning on December 9 at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Mirpur.

“Obviously, this victory is going to help us in the one-day series by keeping our confidence high. We’ve finished the match with nine overs to play. I think if we get a fiery start in the coming matches as we had today, chasing the totals of 300-plus will be an easy task,” Soumya added.

Soumya partnered Tamim Iqbal in the second wicket stand of 114 runs which helped the BCB XI to win the game in an easy manner.

The left-hander insisted that the partnership with Tamim was amazing for him, and what Tamim told him during the stand helped him flourish.

“I was trying to stay at the wicket as much as possible, and Tamim bhai was telling me something that helped me a lot. It’s not possible to get his advice staying out of the team, and it’s easy to learn from him while batting with him in the middle,” Soumya said while explaining his partnership with Tamim.
