The High Court on Thursday asked the jail authorities to admit the former caretaker government adviser Barrister Mainul Hosein to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) for medical treatment, reports UNB.
The court also ordered the BSMMU authorities to form a medical board for Mainul's treatment and submit his health report within December 6.
A HC bench of Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed and Justice Md Iqbal Kabir passed the order after hearing a supplementary petition seeking urgent medical treatment of Mainul filed by his lawyer Masud Rana.
Earlier on November 11, the HC issued a rule asking the concerned authorities why former caretaker government adviser Barrister Mainul Hosein should not be transferred to Dhaka for better treatment.
Mainul was sent to jail on October 23, as a Ragpur Court issued arrest warrant for him after a local human rights activist Mili Maya filed a defamation case against him.
According to the case statement, Mainul who was connected to a talk show programme, 'Ekattorer Journal', through a videoconference aired on a private TV channel, Ekattor TV, made 'offensive comments' against journalist Masuda Bhatti on October 16.
