The Department of Languages of International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT) has organised the prize awarding ceremony of Book Reading Competition.
The event was held at IUBAT Conference Hall on Sunday. The winners, along with the best winners among the participants of the reading competitions of Fall-2017, Spring-2018, and Summer-2018, received the prizes and certificates.
Professor Dr. Abdur Rab, Vice-Chancellor of the university presided over the ceremony.
In his speech, Prof Rab shed light on the importance of reading habit and highlighted how it helps the learners to develop their reading skill.
He also said reading books can help the students to learn English better and “reading books in English is a tool for English learning”.
He called upon the students to adhere to book reading practices.
Ms Kirsty Crawford, Program Director, Libraries Unlimited, British Council, Bangladesh as the chief guest at the ceremony also encouraged the students of the university to participate in book reading competition and appreciated the learning facilities such as university’s learning environment, scholarship and loan provided by IUBAT.
Professor Dr Hamida Akhtar Begum, Pro-Vice Chancellor of the university appreciated this competition program.
She also emphasised on the book reading competition for the encouragement of the students for reading practice.
Dr. Md Momtazur Rahman, Professor of English and Coordinator, Department of Languages, IUBAT delivered the welcoming speech, underscored the importance of book reading competition and stressed the need for reading books on literature, sociology, international relation, psychology in human sciences, in addition to their subject books.
The event was attended by Controller of Examination of the university, distinguished professors, chairs, and faculty members of the Department of Languages.
Mr Sadekul Islam, Assistant Professor and Mr Forhad Hossain, Assistant Professor, Department of Languages of IUBAT coordinated the event.
