Country’s first digital university Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Digital University (BSMRDU) is going to start its academic activities from this 2018-19 session.
The university gets the approval of enrolling students from current 2018-2019 academic session under two faculties and an institute.
Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC) Professor Abdul Mannan handed over the approval letter to the Vice-Chancellor of BSMRDU Professor Munaz Ahmed Noor on November 8.
With a view to improving the standard of information and communication technology education in the country, the university has been established at Kaliakair of Gazipur.
The newly approved two faculties are Engineering Faculty and Education and Research Faculty and the new institute is Institute for Online and Distance Learning.
The university will commence the course of Bachelor of Science in IOT in Education under Engineering Faculty and the course of Bachelor of Science in ICT in Education under Education and Research Faculty from academic session of 2018-2019.
Besides, the BSMRDU got the approval of enrolling students from this session at the Digital Learning and Cyber Security Certificate Course under the Institute for Online and Distance Learning.
BSMRDU VC Munaz Ahmed Noor said, “This is the country’s first university which is able to provide complete lessons to the students at home and abroad through online.”
He also said, “The students will be able to upgrade their skills through the newly approved courses of the university. The courses will create new entrepreneurs that will extend the job market of the country to help build Digital Bangladesh, the vision of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.”
