Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader alleged that Jatiya Oikya Front (JOF) has violated the electoral code of conduct by holding rally after announcing polls schedule.
“Through holding rally at Rajshahi after announcement of election schedule, the Jatiya Oikya Front has violated the electoral code of conduct,” he said.
Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, told reporters at a programme held at AL’s central office at Bangabandhu Avenue in the capital on Friday.
Mentioning that the Oikya Front has been taking preparation secretly for participating in the national polls to be held on December 23, Quader said there is no advantage would be gained through giving threat. Earlier, at the inaugurating nomination forms selling programme, Quader said that the countrymen are in the election mood.
“People will not allow any move against and they will stand against those who try to hinder the general election,” he said.
“We have started the sales of the nomination forms,” he said. The road transport minister said that people are clamouring to buy the AL nomination forms and the last date of form distribution will be decided on Sunday after the party’s parliamentary board meeting with party chief Sheikh Hasina.
“The Election Commission announced the polls schedule in line with the election laws and we are following the rules,” said Quader. “BNP announcing protests after the announcement of schedule goes against democracy but people will not pay heed to them,” he added.
On AL’s dialogue with Oikya Front, he said, “The meeting was not completely unproductive.”
