The BNP-led 20-party alliance has welcomed the new political coalition of opposition parties Jatiya Oikya Front.
Jatiya Oikya Front was launched on Saturday comprising of BNP, a portion of Jukto Front and Jatiya Oikya Prokriya.The components of the 20-party alliance welcome the Jatiya Oikya Front at a meeting held at BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia’s Gulshan office in the capital.
Chaired by BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, the meeting was attended by top leaders of components of 20-party alliance.
BNP standing committee member Nazrul Islam Khan was also present.
After the meeting, Nazrul Islam Khan, also coordinator of the 20-party alliance, told reporters that “Today we have reviewed demands and goals placed by Jatiya Oikya Front. We agreed that it is a progress in establishing democracy after ousting an autocrat government. That’s why we, on behalf of our alliance, welcoming the Jatiya Oikya Front.”
He said peoples’ movement will be strengthened through forging the new front and the incumbent government will meet the justified demands for holding free, fair and neutral election.
The 20-party alliance insiders said some components, including Bangladesh NAP, Jamaat-e-Islami and Kalyan Party, are unhappy with the new front outside the 20-party alliance.
