The third phase of local urban body (civic) polls Saturday began in restive Indian-controlled Kashmir, officials said.
According to officials the polling started from 6:00 a.m. (local time) in the morning amid adequate security arrangements and would go on until 4:00 in evening.
“The third phase of polling is under way in the state,” an election commission official said.
Currently the region is under India’s direct rule with governor heading the administrative affairs.
Separatist groups too have called for a boycott of elections and called for a shutdown in poll bound areas.
A total of 372 candidates are in the fray in the third phase of the urban local bodies’ elections.
