East West University (EWU) and International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT) celebrated the World Mental Health Day in the capital on Wednesday.
On the campus of EWU, seminars were held, posters were put on display and awareness campaign was conducted with the theme ‘Young People and Mental Health in a Changing’.Prof Dr Md Mobarak Hossain Khan, chairperson of the department of social relations, and Rubayat Kabir outlined the scenario of mental health in the country and the world. Prof Dr Fakrul Alam, Pro-Vice Chancellor of EWU, and Dr Rafiqul Huda Chaudhury, member of board of trustees of the university were present in the seminar.
On the other hand, Professor Mahmuda Khanum Counseling and Guidance Center and Department of Psychology of IUBAT observed the day by arranging a workshop on anger management on its campus in Uttara of the capital.
Issues like mental health and protection in mental disasters, parenting skills training, teaching techniques, anger control and stress management were discussed at the workshop.Prof Selina Nargis, Gen (Retd) Dr Md Zahid Hossain, Prof Dr KM Sultanul Aziz, Prof M Lutfar Rahman, Dr MA Hannan, Dr Md Shohidullah Miah, Prof Muhammad Shahjahan, AKM Sharfuddin, Dr Mujibur Rahman Khan, Dr Engr AZA Saifulla , Saleha Sultana, Roksana Parvin, Mallika De and Mita Mondol were present at the workshop.
The 10th of October is observed worldwide as the ‘World Mental Health Day 2018’ by the World Health Organization (WHO). According to WHO, in terms of the burden of the disease among adolescents, depression is the third leading cause and suicide is the second leading cause of death among 15-29-year-olds.
