English medium students who excelled in the O Level and A Level examinations in the 2017-2018 academic sessions are going to be honoured on Tuesday in a programme World University of Bangladesh and the Daily Sun are hosting.
The event -- Change Makers Awards Programme -- will be held at International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB) in the capital from 10:00am to 12:00pm.
WUB and the Daily Sun have come with the programme as part of its social responsibilities. It aims to appreciate outstanding academic performance of the O and A level examinees and encourage others.
A total of 602 O-Level applicants who secured at least seven A’s in one sitting and 53 A-Level students who got at least three A’s in single sitting in the 2017-2018 academic sessions have been selected for the award.
Each student will receive a medal and a certificate.
Parliament Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury will grace the occasion as the chief guest while University Grants Commission Chairman Prof Abdul Mannan and Daily Sun Editor Enamul Hoque Chowdhury will be the special guests. WUB Vice Chancellor Prof Abdul Mannan Choudhury will preside over the event.
The programme will be aired live on News24 TV channel.
Commenting on the programme, WUB Vice Chancellor Prof Abdul Mannan Choudhury said, “It’s our humble efforts to help students maintain the tempo they have already gathered in their academic life and encourage them to emerge as complete change makers for the development of themselves and the less fortunate in the society.”
Daily Sun Editor said by organising the event the newspaper is trying to accomplish its social duty to recognise the talents in the education field.
He said the Daily Sun has plans to expand the programme to cover students of other mediums of education in future.
