CHATTOGRAM: A case was filed, accusing a college principal on charge of demanding extortion and beating a student, with a Chattogram court on Monday.
The case was filed with the court of Chattogram Metropolitan Magistrate Abu Saleh Md Noman, said the plaintiff’s lawyer Daudul Islam.Taking the allegations into cognisance, the court asked Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to investigate into the matter, he said.
The accused was identified as Chattogram Biggyan College Principal Dr Mohammad Jahed Khan while the plaintiff was Jakaria Hossain Nahid, a HSC passed student of the same college.
The plaintiff in the case alleged that he went to the principal for his HSC certificate and testimonial on September 17.
The accused allegedly demanded Tk 2 lakh from the student in exchange of these. As Nahid refused to pay the money, the principal beat him and threatened to kill, the plaintiff alleged in the case.
Later, the victim went to Chawk Bazar Police Station to file case. But, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the police station suggested him for going to court with the complaint.
Mentionable, the college principal filed a case accusing 37 persons, including Chattogram city unit BCL former General Secretary Nurul Azim Rony on charge of assaulting him and demanding Tk 20 lakh as extortion with the city’s Chawk Bazar Police Station on April 4 this year.The college authority realised Tk 5,000 from each of over 900 HSC examinees as development fees before the examination this year.
On information, a group of BCL men, led by Rony went to the college and inquired into the matter to the principal on March 31.
At one stage of altercation over the matter, Rony beat up the principal in presence of police.
Later, CCTV footage of beating the principal by Rony went viral on social media.
BCL central committee relieved Rony from the post after a video of assaulting a coaching centre director by him also went viral few days later.
