RANGPUR: Police and common people at a rural courtyard meeting on Saturday vowed to resist drug abuse, terrorism, militancy and eve-teasing through joint efforts to turn Pirgachha into a peaceful upazila in the country.
Pirgachha Police Station with assistance of Parul union parisahd organised the meeting on Pirgachha union parishad premises under Pirgachha upazila here against drug abuse, terrorism, militancy, sexual harassment and violence against women, reports BSS.With Chairman of Parul union parisahd Abul Kalam Azad Khan in the chair, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Pirgachha Police Station Saresh Chandra addressed the meeting as the chief guest.
President of Parul union Awami League Tofazzal Hossain, representative of Parul Union Coordination Committee of Community Policing Abdul Awal, Members of Parul union Afroza Begum, Dulal Hossain and Nurul Amin, Union Digital Centre entrepreneur Matiar Rahman addressed as special guests.
Members of the local community policing coordination committee, police, civil society members, community leaders, teachers, students, youths, religious and local community leaders, socio-cultural, women and professional activists and elite were present.
Speakers narrated grievous impacts of drug abuse, terrorism, militancy, anarchy and subversive activities and called for raising awareness among the common people to build a crime-free and peaceful society in the upazila.
The chief guest called upon members of the union level community policing committees for playing pioneering role in freeing their respective areas from drug abuse, addiction, terrorism, militancy and violence taking assistance of police forces.
He put special emphasis on police-people cooperation to reduce crimes and urged the illegal drug traders and drug addicted people to come back to the mainstream society leaving their bad practice for building congenial atmosphere everywhere.
