A makeshift court inside the Old Dhaka jailhouse has decided to continue trial proceedings of Zia Charitable Trust corruption case in the absence of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
Judge Md Akhtaruzzaman of the Special Judge Court-5 passed the order upon a petition submitted by the prosecution.
Khaleda, the lone inmate of the abandoned jailhouse, continued to skip court appearances in the case on Thursday.
Earlier on September 5, Khaleda refused to appear before the court for hearing, saying she was ill.
Earlier, her lawyers filed a petition saying the court inside the jailhouse cannot continue its proceedings without permission from the Supreme Court.
On September 13, the prosecution filed a petition seeking completion of the trial in the absence of Khaleda as she did not appear before the court in the last several months due to illness.
