‘Drug trader’ killed in N’ganj ‘gunfight’

A suspected drug trader was killed in a reported gunfight with members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) at Shimrail in Siddhirganj upazila of Narayanganj early Wednesday, UNB reports.

The deceased was identified as Farid Mia alias Fenci Farid, a top listed drug trader of the area and son of Balai Mia of Tarabo in Rupganj upazila.

Tipped off, a team of Rab-11 conducted a drive in the area in the early hours on Wednesday.

Sensing presence of the elite force, the criminals opened fire on them, forcing them to fire back, said Alep Uddin, senior assistant director of Rab-11.

Farid sustained bullet injuries during the gunfight. Later, he was taken to Narayanganj General Hospital where the doctors declared him dead.

Two Rab members were injured in the incident, he added.

One pistol, bullets and some Yaba tablets were recovered from the spot.

Farid Mia was wanted in 18 cases filed with different police stations, said the Rab official.
