SAFF Suzuki Cup: Nepal crash out after defeat against Maldives

Nepal crashed out of SAFF Suzuki Cup Championship after losing 3-0 against Maldives in the first semifinal at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka on Wednesday.

Akram Abdul Ghanee scored once and Ibrahim Waheed scored twice to put Maldives into the final and will now play the winner of the match between arch rivals India and Pakistan.

Ghanee scored in the ninth minute of the game when his free-kick sailed directly into the net. The game was briefly stopped after 27 minutes on the clock due to thunderstorm.

Upon resumption of the game, Nepal boasted a huge possession with the ball but lacked the finishing touch in front of opposition goal.

Waheed made the most of a defensive mistake to score his first in the 83rd minute. Three minutes later, he scored another goal after the ball was not properly dealt by Nepali defenders.
