‘Drug trader’ killed in Rajshahi ‘gunfight’

A suspected drug trader was killed in a reported gunfight with members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) at Pakuria-Dhuroil Beel in Mohanpur upazila of Rajshahi early Tuesday, UNB reports.

The deceased was identified as Dulal Miah, 45, son of late Ibrahim, a resident of Harihar village.

AFM Ashraful Islam, deputy commanding officer of Rab-5, said a gang of drug traders numbering around ten tried to flee when a Rab team was patrolling in the area around 1 am.

Being chased by the elite force members, the gang opened fire on them, prompting them to fire back that triggered the gunfight.

Later, the team found Dulal with bullet wounds and took him to Mohonpur Upazila Health Complex where the duty doctors declared him dead.

The team recovered 506 Yaba tablets, a foreign pistol, one round bullet and a magazine from the spot.
