Parliament not to be dissolved for polls, says Anisul

Law Minister Anisul Huq on Monday said the current parliament will not be dissolved ahead of the upcoming national election.

Quoting the minister UNB said, "The [next] parliament session beginning on September 9 will be its last session. However, the current parliament won't be dissolved for the polls. It'll continue until its tenure."

The minister was talking to reporters after attending a function organised by Dhaka Registrar's Office at Tejgaon.

Anisul said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will announce the polls-time government and it is only she who knows what will be its size. "It's her responsibility. I don't know anything [else]," he said.

Asked about the Election Commission's move to amend the Representation of the People Order (RPO), he said the file reached the Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Division of his ministry for vetting and legal advice. "The file is yet to reach my desk. The Legislative Division will examine it and then send it to me."
