Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad on Sunday said his party will take part in the next general election independently if BNP boycotts it.
“We’ll participate in the election in alliance with Awami League if BNP joins it. However, we’ll join it independently if the party boycotts it. This is our current political stand,” he said while talking to reporters at the local circuit house.
Ershad, a former military ruler, said the election-time government will be formed as per the constitution where there will be 7-8 minsters from his party.
Coming down hard on BNP, he said the party had tortured him. “I’d been in jail for six years. They’d also jailed my wife, son and daughter without committing any crime. It’s difficult to forget this.”
MP from Kurigram-1 constituency AKM Mostafizur Rahman and MP from Kurigram-3 constituency Akkas Ali Sarker were also present.
