Quader confined Moudud to his ancestral home, alleges BNP

BNP on Saturday alleged that its senior leader Moudud Ahmed has been kept confined to his ancestral home at Companiganj, Noakhali since Friday morning at the behest of Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader.

Speaking at a press conference at BNP's Nayapaltan central office, party senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi also alleged that police are showing the attitude of hooligans towards Moudud by barring him from meeting party leaders and activists.

"Country's a senior citizen and noted lawyer Moudud Ahmed has been kept confined to his home at Companiganj's Maniknagar since Friday morning by police at the directive of Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader," he said.

Rizvi alleged that police arrested 10 BNP leaders and activists as they went to meet Moudud on Friday.

The BNP leader also said police is not allowing any BNP leader to meet Moudud today and hold schedule organisational meetings with him. "Such an attitude towards Moudud Ahmed is direct hooliganism. We strongly condemn and protest it."

He said the killing of people in road accidents are growing while homebound holidaymakers are badly suffering in tailbacks on the highways as Quader has failed to run his ministry.

"Children and adolescents took to the streets as Quader failed to ensure safe roads for them. People also can't go home smoothly on the occasion of eid only for his failure," the BNP leader observed.

Rizvi said Quader has kept his electoral rival Moudud confined to his home as he knows he will suffer a defeat to him in the national election.

He demanded the government immediately withdraw the police barricade from Moudud's house and release the arrested party leaders and activists.

Moudud had also reportedly been confined to his local residence by police on the day of Eid-ul-Fitr this year.

At a press conference after the eid, Moudud alleged that he was barred from joining the main eid congregation in his constituency and exchanging greetings with party leaders and activists by police. "I was confined to my house on the eid day."
