Awami League-backed Khairuzzaman Liton wins RCC polls unofficially

Awami League-backed mayoral candidate AHM Khairuzzaman Liton has won Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) elections by 87, 360 votes, according to unofficial results.

 

Liton got 1,66,394 votes while his nearest rival BNP-backed candidate Mosaddek Hossain Bulbul bagged 78,492 votes.

 

According to Election Commission sources, a total of 3,18,138 voters are in Rajshahi City Corporation. Among them, 1,56,085 are male and 1,62,053 are female.

 

In the city corporation election, five candidates have contested for the mayoral post.

 

The candidates are- Awami League-backed AHM Khairuzzaman Litan (Boat), BNP-backed Mosaddek Hossain (Sheaf of Paddy), Islami Andolan Bangladesh-backed Md Shafiqul Islam (Hand Fan), independent candidate Md Murad Morshed (Elephant) and Jatiya Party (Matin)-backed candidate Habibur Rahman Habib (Jackfruit).

 

The voting in the elections to Rajshahi, Barishal and Sylhet city corporations ended on 4:00 pm amid allegations of widespread vote rigging and manipulation.
