Police in Sylhet have picked up son of the member secretary of the election conducting committee of BNP’s mayoral candidate Ariful Haque Chowdhury in the upcoming Sylhet City Corporation (SCC) polls, Ariful Haque claimed at a press conference on Monday.
The mayor candidate alleged that Rummon Razzak, son of his election conducting committee member secretary Abdur Razzak was picked up by police on Sunday night and Abdur Razzak was being intimidated too, reports UNB.
In a press conference at Mita community center of Kazitola area in the city, Ariful Haque Chowdhury alleged that law enforcers were harassing their leaders and activists and showing biased attitude towards them.
He said on Sunday night police also picked up Sylhet district unit’s ex-president of Bangladesh Chhatra Dal, Sayed Ahmed.
“The houses of party leaders were being raided persistently. They (law enforcers) are intimidating senior leaders like Abdur Razzak and Nasim Hossain”, he alleged.
“During his visit in Sylhet, Election Commissioner Rafiqul Islam assured that the administration will perform its duty impartially, but in reality we are seeing a different picture”, Ariful said.
“A voting with irregularities won’t be allowed in the soil of Sylhet. The people of Sylhet would resist any kind of injustice centering the city polls”, he warned.
