National Fisheries Week 2018 being celebrated

National Fisheries Week 2018 being celebrated

The National Fisheries Week 2018 is being observed across the country from July 18 to July 24.


This slogan for this year is “Bangabandhu’s country self-sufficient with fish.”


Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the week on July 19 by releasing fish fry at the lake of Ganobhaban.


President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina issued separate massages on the occasion of National Fisheries Week this year.


In his massage, President Abdul Hamid hoped the skill and sincerity of all people will be used in utilizing the possibilities of fish sector to transform Bangladesh into a developed country.


“Father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman dreamed of building a happy and rich country, so the slogan of this year’s fisheries week is appropriate and significant,” he said.


In her massage, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said the government was working to build the golden Bangladesh of Bangabandhu’s dream. “Highly potential fish sector will perform an important role to achieve that destination,” she said.


She also sought sincerity of all for the overall advancement in the sector.


Earlier on the first day of the week on July 18, a colourful rally was brought out from the Matsya Bhaban.


Besides, a five-day and three-day fish fair were being held at Mymensingh Fisheries Research Institute and its five epicenters on July 20 respectively.


Besides, a seminar on ‘Bangladesh Fisheries and Aquaculture: Potentials and Challenges for Development and Exports/Blue Economy’ will be held in Mymensingh on Monday.


On the concluding day, Fisheries and Livestock Miniser Narayan Chandra Chanda will hand over the National Fisheries Award 20118 among the persons and institutions at Krishibid Institution.
