Panel formed to probe schoolgirl rape at Sylhet hospital

A five-member probe committee has been formed to look into the rape of a schoolgirl at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital allegedly by an intern.

 

The committee formed on Tuesday with Prof Dr NK Sinha of the hospital's ENT department as its head was asked to submit its report within seven working days, said deputy director of the hospital Dr Debopada Roy, reports UNB.

 

Earlier on Monday, Makkam Ahmed Mahi, an intern at the ENT department of the hospital and son of Mokhlesur Rahman of Muktagachha upazila in Mymensingh district, was arrested allegedly for raping a schoolgirl at the hospital.

 

Offier-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station Golam Sadek Kawsar Dastagir said the girl was with her sick grandmother at the hospital. Around 3am on Monday, she went to the doctor's room to get the prescription understand. However, Mahi who was on duty at that time raped the girl.

 

As the girl narrated the incident to her parents in the morning, they lodged a complaint with hospital director Brigadier General AKM Mahbubul Haq.
