The visitors Sri Lanka A had looked on course to win the third unofficial Test against Bangladesh A as Shehan Jayasuriya struck a classy 142 alongside Ashan Shammu’s 60 put the visitors in firm control of the final unofficial Test on day two at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium in Sylhet on Wednesday.
All-rounder Jayasuriya, who claimed three wickets yesterday to lead hosts’ spectacular batting collapse, hit four sixes in his elegant century as the tourists reached 312 before all-out with overall 145-run lead.At the close, Bangladesh could put on 32 runs without loss in their second innings where Sadman Islam was unbeaten on 19 and Soumya Sarkar was not out on 12.
Bangladesh had their moments of control in the morning session turning in a better performance with the ball and removed Charith Asalanka quickly. He became Mustafizur’s second victim.
Opener Jayasuriya and Ashan Shammu however, pegged the hosts back with a watchful fourth-wicket stand of 118. Shammu hit eight fours and a six in his patient knock.
Jayasuriya was calmly in control of the situation, keeping the opposing bowlers at bay with sensible batting and rebuild the innings. He added another 44 runs with Manoj Sarathchandra for the fifth wicket stand before Mustafizur finally brought an end Jayasuriya’s innings. Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur had a good comeback with a three-wicket haul while left arm spinner Sunzamul Islam claimed four wickets for 104 runs. Off spinner Naeem Hasan also grabbed two wickets.
