Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of the National Film Award-winning actress Rani Sarkar.
In a condolence message, the prime minister recalled with profound respect the contributions of Rani Sarkar to the country’s film industry, saying that she has taken her place in the hearts of the people through film.
Sheikh Hasina said Rani Sarkar started her career through stage drama in 1958 and performed in nearly 250 movies. “Her death is an irreparable loss to Bangla film,” she added.
The prime minister prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed profound sympathy to the bereaved family.
Rani Sarkar, whose real name was Mossamot Amirun Nessa Khanam, died of old-age ailments at a city hospital this morning.
