Two quota reformists were assaulted allegedly by some activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) of Jahangirnagar University unit while they were trying to bring out a flag procession on the campus on Monday.
The leaders and activists of Bangladesh General Students' Rights Protection Council, a platform that leads the quota reform movement, gathered on the campus to bring out a pre-scheduled flag procession in the morning.
At one stage, some 20/30 BCL activists, led by its Vice-President Mamunur Rashid and Nahid Hossen, appeared there and slapped Shakiluzzaman, convener of the council and Rajib in front of JU Central Library around 11 am.
The BCL men also forcibly oust 10 to 12 joint conveners of the council from the library premises in presence of proctorial team, witnesses said.
Earlier, over 100 BCL leaders and activists gathered at different points on the campus and staged showdown with motorbike to create panic.
Contacted, JU BCL leader Mamunur Rashid denied the allegation saying “some people were trying to create unrest on campus in the name of quota movement ahead of the national election, and the BCL men resisted their attempt.”
Abu Sayed, coordinator of the council, said, “The BCL men foiled our peaceful gathering. It's totally unacceptable.”
