Singer Ferdausi Rahman’s birthday today

Today is the birthday of prominent playback singer of the country, Ferdausi Rahman.

Her fans, friends, and well-wishers from around the world have sent their congratulatory messages to the singer as she turns another year older. 

Celebrities and her co-artistes also take to the social media and shower love on Ferdausi Rahman with birthday wishes. 

Bangladesh Television and Channel i have arranged special programmes to mark the birthday of the legendary singer.

Ferdausi Rahman will attend a programme on channel i titled ‘Taroka Kothon’ at 12:30pm today.  Produced by Anonno Ruma, Moushumi Borua will anchor the programme.

Bangladesh Television (BTV) will also air a special programme titled ‘‘Priyo Shilpi Priyo Gaan’ at 09:00 pm tonight to celebrate the birthday of Ferdausi Rahman.

After nearly a five-year hiatus, Ferdausi Rahman has performed for this programme. The programme is produced by Mahbuba Ferdous and anchored by Dinat Jahan Munni.

The audience will enjoy a few notable songs of Ferdausi Rahman in the show, such as ‘Jar Chaya Porechhe’, ‘Porane Dola Dilo’, ‘Ami Sagorer Nil’ and ‘Ami Rupnogorer Rajkonna’, among others.

Born in Cooch Behar, India on June 28 in 1941, Ferdausi Rahman is a famous Bangladeshi playback singer. 

She is the daughter of folk singer Abbas Uddin. She sang some popular film songs for Pakistani films also in the 1960s especially working with the music composer Robin Ghosh in film Chakori released in 1967. She was awarded Ekushey Padak in 1977 and Independence Day Award in 1995 by the Government of Bangladesh.

Rahman had two elder brothers, Justice Mustafa Kamal (died 2015) and singer Mustafa Zaman Abbasi.

Her niece, Nashid Kamal, is a singer. Her other nieces who are also singers are Samira Abbasi and Sharmini Abbasi.

Rahman participated as a children artiste in radio programmes. In 1955 she first sang for the radio as an adult artiste. The first released movie where she sang as a playback singer was Ehtesham’s Ei Desh Tomar Amar under the music direction of Khan Ataur Rahman in 1959, followed by ‘Asia’ in 1960.

One of the music directors of the movie ‘Asia’ was her father Abbas Uddin. In 1964, her song was broadcast on the newly established Pakistan Television in erstwhile East Pakistan (now Bangladesh).

Her children’s program “Esho Gaan Shikhi” was a program to teach children about music on Bangladesh Television, and the programme has been running for 44 years. NTV (Bangladesh) has been airing a programme of her songs presented by contemporary artistes.
