Indian Navy chief in city

Chief of Naval Staff of Indian Navy Admiral Sunil Lanba arrived in Dhaka on Sunday on an invitation from the Chief of Naval Staff of Bangladesh Navy Admiral Nizamuddin Ahmed.

Admiral Sunil Lanba, also Chairman of the Chiefs of Staff Committee, is accompanied by his spouse Reena Lanba and a three-member delegation.

During the visit, the chiefs of the two Navies will jointly inaugurate the Coordinated Patrol (CORPAT) at Chittagong.

The CORPAT will be conducted by the Navies of both the countries for the first time.

The Chief of Naval Staff had earlier visited Bangladesh in November 2017 to attend the ‘IONS Multilateral Maritime Search and Rescue Exercise’ (IMMSAREX) organised by Bangladesh Navy under aegis of the Indian Ocean Naval Symposium.

The Chief is scheduled to meet President and Prime Minister of Bangladesh and also meet the senior military leadership.

The Naval Chief will also address student officers at the National Defence College, Mirpur and visit various Naval establishments.

The visit of the Indian Navy Chief is likely to further strengthen the close and fraternal ties existing between the Armed Forces of the two countries, said the Indian High Commission in Dhaka.
