‘Drug trader’ killed in Jashore ‘gunfight’

A suspected drug trader was killed in a reported gunfight with rivals at Chengutia in Abhaynagar upazila of Jashore early Monday, UNB reports.

The deceased was identified as Shahidul Islam, 38, son of Nur Islam of Buikara village in the upazila.

With this, 113 people were killed in 'gunfights' with members of law enforcement agencies while 37 bodies of suspected drug traders were recovered after reported gun battles between rival groups during the countrywide anti-narcotic drives since May 15.

Acting on information that two groups of drug traders were exchanging gunfire in the area, a team of police went there around 4 am and recovered the bullet hit body of Shahidul, said Sheikh Goni Mia, officer-in-charge of Abhaynagar Police Station.

Police also recovered a pipe gun, two bullets and 120 pieces of Yaba tablets from the spot.

Shahidul was wanted in several cases, said the OC.
