Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan on Wednesday said jail authorities were waiting for BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s decision as to where she wants to undergo her health checkups.
He came up with the remark replying to a query from reporters after distributing eid clothes among poor children at a function organised by Child Pratibha Vikash Kendra at Tejgaon Science College in the city.
The Home Minister said the jail authorities on Tuesday proposed Khaleda Zia to choose either Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) or Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka for her medical check-up. “But, she has not informed her decision as of Wednesday afternoon. We’ll take necessary steps after she gives her decision,” he said.
He said the Civil Surgeon of Dhaka and the prison doctors have also examined Khaleda Zia alongside her four personal physicians. “She was offered to choose either BSMMU or CMH for her further tests as advised by her personal physicians. We hope she’ll give her decision,” Asaduzzaman said.
Responding to a query, he said investigation is on into the killing of publisher and free-thinking writer Shahjahan Bachchu who was gunned down in Munshiganj on Monday evening. “Killers must be arrested. No one will be spared.”
About the law-and-order situation during Eid-ul-Fitr, the Home Minister said, "There’s no specific threat over eid. Everyone can celebrate eid in peace. There was no deterioration in law and order in the last 27 days. Hopefully, it won’t worsen.”
