Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu on Saturday said the gazette notification on dearness allowance for journalists as recommended under the Ninth Wage Board will be issued by next week.
He came up with the announcement at an iftar party-cum-discussion programme arranged by Dhaka Reporters' Unity (DRU) on its premises, marking its 23rd founding anniversary.
"The necessary formalities for giving the dearness allowance have already been completed. A gazette notification in this connection will be issued by next week, he said.
At its third meeting on March 21, the Ninth Newspaper Wage Board formed by the government reached a decision to award 45 percent dearness allowance to journalists, employees and workers of newspapers and news agencies with effect from March 1, 2018.
Inu called upon journalists to run news objectively being responsible to their conscience.
Prime Minister's media adviser Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury, Samakal editor Golam Sarwar, BFUJ president Manjurul Ahsan Bulbul, Press Club senior vice president and Jugantor acting editor Saiful Alam, general secretary Farida Yasmin, DRU president Saiful Islam and general secretary Shukkur Ali Shuvo, among others, spoke at the programme.
Earlier in the morning, a rally was brought out in the capital marking DRU's founding anniversary.
