Lightning kills three in Dinajpur, Thakurgaon

Three persons, including a housewife, were killed in separate incidents of lightning strikes at different places of Dinajpur and Thakurgaon districts today, officials said.


In Dinajpur, one Shafikul Islam, 52, son of late Nasim Uddin of village Hatisha under Kaharol upazila was killed after a thunderbolt struck him amid drizzles while he was guarding a litchi orchard at nearby Paikpara village in the morning.


Confirming the incident, Kaharol Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Nasim Ahmed said Taka 20,000 was handed over to the family members of the deceased person on behalf of the district administration and he was buried in the afternoon.


In Thakurgaon, two persons were killed and another was injured when a thunderbolt struck the house of one Bablu Mian in village Lohuchand under Haripur upazila in the district today.


The deceased were identified as Sarifon Nesa, 40, wife of Bablu Mian and Moinuddin Ahmed, 26, son of late Ashanur Ali of the same village.


Noimuddin Ahmed, 24, brother of deceased Moinuddin was injured in the lightning strike.


The tragic incident occurred when two bothers Moinuddin and Noimuddin took shelter at the house of Bablu Mian amid inclement weather on way to their nearby paddy field and the thunderbolt hit the house.


"The three persons were injured in the incident and rushed to nearby Ranisonkoil Upazila Health Complex where the attending doctor declared Moinuddin and Sarifon dead," said Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Haripur Thana Ruhul Kuddus.


"Injured Noimuddin is undergoing treatment at the health complex," the OC added.
