A modern and spectacular central office of the ruling Awami League (AL) is likely to be inaugurated on its founding anniversary on June 23.
Party sources, however, said if inauguration of the entire building is not possible, a part of the office would be opened for use on the day.
AL’s new 10-storied modern building is being constructed with all modern amenities. The new building will have conference hall, seminar room, digital library, VIP lounge, cafeteria, journalist lounge, car parking, dormitory and separate floors for party president and general secretary.
The information was revealed during a visit of Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader and housing minister Mosharaf Hossain to the site on Wednesday.
During the visit, they inquired about the progress of construction work of the building.
They also talked to the chief engineer giving him some directives.
When contacted, Awami League office secretary Abdus Sobhan Golap told the daily sun that there is a possibility of inaugurating the new party office on June 23. “But, it’s not final,” he also said.
“It depends upon the schedule of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, also the party president, as well as completion of the building’s construction work,” he said.
The firm which was entrusted to construct the building was asked to complete its work before June 23.
Earlier, it was planned to inaugurate the building sometime in March or April, but it was deferred due to delay in its construction work.
The demolition work of Awami League central office began in July 2016.
