UP chairman arrested in Habiganj for war crimes

A union parishad chairman in Habiganj district has been arrested on Wednesday for his alleged involvement in crimes during the 1971 Liberation War.

 

The detainee was identified as Madhu Mia Talukder, chairman of Muradpur Union Parishad under Baniachang upazila of the district.

 

A team of detective branch (DB) of police arrested Madhu Mia Talukder, also the joint general secretary of Baniachang Upazila unit of BNP, from Court Mosque area in the district town around 12am on Wednesday noon.

 

Md Shah Alam, officer-in-charge of DB police in Habiganj, confirmed the matter.

 

He and his men had allegations of killing several people in Bithangal area under Baniachang Upazila of the district during the Liberation War.

 

Earlier, International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) issued an arrest warrant against him in a case filed for allegedly committing crimes during the Liberation War, the OC added.
