Slum dwellers are unable to enjoy a sound life as they are devoid of a number of basic necessities, including adequate drinking water, sanitation, education and security, which are barring them from coming out of poverty.
The observation was made while a research finding was being revealed at a city hotel on Sunday.
The study titled “Informal Work and Wellbeing in Urban Areas” was conducted on the people of seven slums of Dhaka, Chittagong and Bogra.
The research was carried out by a partnership of the Institute of Development Studies (IDS, at University of Sussex) in collaboration with BRAC Institute of Governance and Development (BIGD) and ActionAid Bangladesh (AAB).
Arranged by ActionAid Bangladesh, Farah Kabir, Country Director, M Hafiz Uddin Khan, Treasurer of ActionAid Bangladesh, and Dr Salma A Shafi, Treasurer of Center for Urban Studies, spoke at the event.
