Murder accused killed in ‘Mymensingh gunfight’

A murder accused was killed in a reported gunfight with DB police in Tinkona Pukurpar area of Mymensingh district town early Monday, UNB reports.

 

The deceased was identified as Sarfan Islam Babu, accused in several cases including of Peu Baba murder.

 

Ahsikur Rahman, officer-in-charge of district Detective Branch of Police, said DB police arrested Sarfan from Dhaka in connection with the murder.

 

Later, a team of DB police conducted a drive in the area along with Sarfan early in the morning.

 

Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, Sarfan’s associates opened fire on police and tried to snatch Sarfan, prompting them to retaliate, triggering the gunfight.

 

The gunfight left Sarfan injured with bullet. He was rushed to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

 

The OC said that a gang of terrorists led by Sarfan stabbed Peu Babu to death in Etakhola road area of the town on April 20.
