Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) has imposed a restriction on vehicular movement for peaceful holding of elections in Khulna City Corporation (KCC) area scheduled to be held on May 15, said deputy additional commissioner of KMP (Media) Sonali Sen, reports BSS.
A press release signed by Humayun Kabir, Commissioner of KMP, said restriction has been imposed on plying of Mahendra (baby taxi), battery run easy bike, micro-bus, jeep, pickup, car, bus, truck and tempo in the city area from 12 midnight of May 14 to 12 midnight of May 15.
Besides, plying of all sorts of motorbikes will be restricted from 12 midnight of May 12 to 12 midnight of May 15.
However, contesting candidates and their election agents, local and Dhaka journalists (bearing ID cards), members of law enforcement agencies, election related officials, judicial and executive magistrate and inspectors engaged in the election process will be allowed to use motor vehicles on prior permission from the Returning Officer.
Apart from this, ambulance, fire service, electricity, gas, post office, telephone and other utility services will remain beyond the purview of restriction.
Besides, the restriction will remain relaxed on plying of vehicles transporting emergency goods and medicines on the highway, the release added.
