Bangladesh storms into semis in Bangabandhu volleyball

Defending champions Bangladesh stepped into the semi-final as group A champions in the second edition of Bangabandhu Asian Senior Men's Central Zone International Volleyball tournament outplaying the Maldives by 3-0 sets on Monday at Shaheed Suhrawardy Indoor Stadium in Mirpur.

The semi-final will be held on Wednesday (April 25) at the same venue. In the day's match, Bangladesh won the first set by 25-15 points and extended their lead with 25-15 points in the second set.

The boys in red and green were later stretched by their rivals as they won the final set by 25-22 points to complete the misery for the hapless Maldivians.

Earlier, host Bangladesh beat Nepal in their tournament opening match.

Prior to the second match Monday, group B favorite Turkmenistan also confirmed their last four place as they defeated Uzbekistan by 3-1 set at the same venue.

Turkmenistan won the first set by 25-18 points but lost the second set by 26-28 points. Turkmenistan went ahead with 25-22 points victory in the third set and repeated their prowess to register a similar 25-22 points win in the fourth set.
