BNP leaders fail to meet Khaleda

The jail authorities have denied Bangladesh Nationalist Party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and the party standing committee members Nazrul Islam Khan and Mirza Abbas to give permission to meet their jailed chairperson Khaleda Zia.

Fakhrul, along with the party's standing committee members went to the old jail on Nazimuddin Road in Dhaka around 3:00 pm on Thursday and waited there for around half an hour and then went back.

While speaking with the reporters in front of the jail gate, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir  said based on prior permission, we came here to meet our party chief Khaleda Zia, but failed as the jail authorities didn’t allow us.

BNP Chief Khaleda Zia landed in the jail on February 8 after a special court sentenced her to five years' rigorous imprisonment in Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case.
