National Board of Revenue (NBR) Chairman Md Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan said that CNG-run auto-rickshaw owners will be brought under tax payment in the upcoming budget.
Mosharraf made the disclosure at a pre-budget discussion with the leaders of auto-rickshaw owners’ body, at the NBR conference room in Segunbagicha of the capital on Thursday.
The higher officials of NBR also participated in the meeting.
In reply to the question of the NBR Chairman, Aslam Ali, President of Four-stroke CNG-driven Auto-rickshaw & Three-wheelers Motorbike Owners’ Association of Bangladesh, said presently there are 20,000 CNG-driven auto-rickshaws in the capital.
According to written proposal, the CNG-run owners and drivers have to be member of the association. Besides, the auto-rickshaws should be run by apps.
Regarding app-based services, the NBR Chairman said the business will face loss if the vehicles are run following old system because services like Uber and Pathao are introduced in the road. In the upcoming budget, the trade license and e-TIN will be mandatory for the auto-rickshaw owners.
