Four cases filed over attack on DU VC house

Four cases have been filed against a number of unidentified miscreants over attack on the residence of Dhaka University vice-chancellor.

Sources said all the cases were filed with Shahbagh Police Station on Wednesday night.

Various charges, including attempt to kill the DU VC and his family members, vandalism in his residence, looting, damaging vehicles, creating anarchy on university campus and obstructing police in performing their duties have been brought against the attackers.

Bhajan Kumar Biswas and Rabiul Islam, two sub-inspectors of Shahbagh Police Station, filed two cases out of the four.

The case of Bhajan was filed for obstructing police in discharging professional duties while that of Rabiul for vandalism, looting and obstructing the  police in the course of their duty.

One case was filed by DU chief security officer Kamrul Ahsan for vandalism in vice-chancellor’s residence on Sunday night.

In his case, Kamrul alleged that the attackers damaged properties worth Tk 1.5 crore.

Humayun Kabir, inspector of Special Branch (SB) of police, filed another case against 30-40 unnamed agitating students for torching his motorcycle at Doel Chattar on Sunday midnight.
