Dhaka University set to observe first ever 'Genocide Day' Sunday

The University of Dhaka is set to observe the 'Genocide Day' tomorrow (Sunday) in remembrance of the brutality carried out by Pakistani Army on the unarmed Bengalis on the black night of March 25 in 1971. 

The Dhaka University authorities have chalked out elaborate programmes to observe the national "Genocide Day" on the campus, reports BSS.

DU authorities and DU Teachers' Association (DUTA) will jointly organise a programme at the Memory Eternal of DU marking the national day as well as the "Black Night of March 25, 1971".

The programmes includes lighting of candles at 7 pm, screening documentary at 7:05 pm and a discussion meeting at 7:20 pm at the Memory Eternal which situated near the Vice-Chancellor's residence. 

DU VC Professor Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman will preside over the function while DU Pro-VC Professor Dr Nasreen Ahmad and Treasurer Professor Dr Md Kamal Uddin will address the programme.

Prayers were held in all mosques and other places of worship on the university campus. "Black-out" programme will be observed on the campus from 9 pm (Sunday) to 9 am (Monday) commemorating the black night of March 25, 1971. 

Jagannath Hall authority will hold a memorial programme at 9:10 pm commemorating the martyrs.
