2 ‘robbers’ arrested following a ‘shootout’

Police arrested two alleged robbers along with homemade weapons after a reported brief 'gunfight' from Kadamtali area here on early Saturday.


Three policemen including a sub-inspector were injured in the 'shootout'.


Police recovered 11 crude bombs, two knives and a chapatti from the spot.


Kadamtali Police Station sources said a patrol team got information that a robber gang was taking preparation to commit robbery in Wasa Battala area.


Based on the secret information, the patrol team rushed to the spot. Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the gangsters started charging crude bombs as well as firing gunshots targeting the cops that triggered a gunfight, police said.


At one stage, police arrested one of the robbers, Md Rashid, 39, with bullet injuries in both of his legs, and another robber Ismail Hossain, 36, was arrested when he was about to flee the scene. Arrested Rashed was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.


The injured cops were given primary treatment at Rajarbag Central Police Hospital.


Police said that the arrested gangsters are active members of an inter-district robber gang who committed robberies in different areas of Dhaka and Nayrangonj.


Two cases were filed with Kadamtoli Police Station in connection.
