Man gets life for murder in Thakurgaon

A Thakurgaon court on Sunday sentenced a man to life term imprisonment for killing his neighbor in Baliadangi upazila in 2012, UNB reports.


The lifer is Abdul Khalek, 38, son of Rahim Uddin of Mechoni village of BaliadangiUpazila.


The court also fined him Tk 10,000, in default, to suffer three months more rigorous imprisonment.


According to prosecution, there was a long standing dispute between Khalek and his neighbor Shah Alam over land.


Following the dispute, Khalek stabbed Alam’s father Abdul Haque when he was asleep on August 9, 2012 and fled away, leaving him critically injured. He died at a hospital on the same day.


Later, Alam filed a case against Khalek.


After examining all the records and witnesses, Thakurgaon Additional District and Sessions Judge Haidar Ali handed down the verdict.
