A large number of visitors crowded the two venues of Amar Ekushey Grantha Mela - the Bangla Academy premises and the Suhrawardy Udyan - in the city on Friday, the last weekend for them at the month-long book fair.
As it was a Friday, there were special arrangements for children.
Much to their delight, children gathered at the Sisimpur stall of the book fair and bought their desired story books.
They also talked to the effigies of Sisimpur series characters - Haalum, Shiku, Ikry and Tuktuki.
The kids also gathered at the Shishu Chottor on the east side of Suhrawardy Udyan to enjoy Shishu Prohor (children’s hour).
Much to their surprise, Haalum, Shiku, Ikry and Tuktuki appeared before them in real life and gave them pleasure by singing and dancing.
Talking to this correspondent, Alauddin Tipu, manager of Onno Prakashani, said, “Sales are good in the fair now and we are happy to have good sales every day.”
Managers of different publication houses said the demand for the books of writers Humayun Ahmed, Zafar Iqbal, Anisul Haque and Imdadul Haq Milon is very high at the fair.
