Four people were killed and two others injured as they fell from the roof of a running train being hit by an overhead girder at Raninagar railway station in Naogaon early Wednesday, UNB reports.
The victims were traveling illegally on the intercity train's roof, said Md Akbar Ali, officer-in-charge of Santhara GRP Police Station.
The deceased were identified as Jahangir Alam, 19, son of Abul Hossain of Bara Hashimpur village in Chirirbandar of Dinajpur, Munir Hossain, 22, son of Mofizuddin of Chaitapara village in Parbatipur upazila of Dinajpur, Aminul Islam, 29, son of Abdul Latif of Malipur village in Sappahar upazila and Apel Mahmud, 26, son of Ramzan Ali of Titopara village in Boda upazila of Panchagarh.
Quoting witnesses, police said six people fell off the roof of Dinajpur-bound Drutojan Express being hit by an overhead girder at Raninagar station around 4:00pm. Four of them died on the spot.
The injured- Ariful Islam and Motaleb Hossain- were sent to Naogaon General Hospital. As their condition deteriorated, they were shifted to Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital.
After autopsy the bodies will be handed over to their families, said the OC adding that a case was filed in this connection.
