Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain on Sunday said a person holding the top post of judiciary should not make comment on irrelevant issues.
His predecessor SK Sinha, who resigned as chief justice, invited a bickering with the government by making comments on political and other irrelevant issues.
Justice Sinha championed irrelevant talks and criticism against politicians and came to the fore of discussion until his resignation on November 10 last year.
About this, Syed Mahmud Hossain said the chief justice should refrain from making irrelevant comments and attending public events.
He also said the chief justice should not make any comment on politics, government and other issues, which are not relevant to judicial subject.
“A chief justice should refrain from making comments on different irrelevant issues. He should be attentive to judicial matters,” Syed Mahmud said.
He made the view to a delegation of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) led by its chairman Kazi Reazul Hoque.
NHRC members Enamul Hoque Chowdhury, also editor of the Daily Sun, Md Nazrul Islam, Nurun Nahar Osmani and Banchita Chakma were also present.
Chairman and some members of NHRC met the Chief Justice at his office at the Supreme Court on Sunday.
Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain also called for more effective role by the National Human Rights Commission in ensuring legal redress to the poor litigants.
Many poor people, who are victims of violation of human rights, persecution and injustice, cannot move the High Court Division and Appellate Division of the Supreme Court seeking remedy for lack of money, he said.
In such a situation, National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) should play more proactive role in ensuring amicable settlement of the disputes and remedy to the poor victims of human rights.
Calling upon NHRC to play proactive role in helping poor litigants, he suggested that insolvent and helpless people take support of the commission.
“The NHRC should play more effective role in mitigating sufferings of poor victims of human rights. The destitute and insolvent litigants should take support of the commission,” Chief Justice Hossain added.
