Evening of Rabindra Sangeet at Nat’l Museum today

An Evening of Rabindra Sangeet of Prem Porjay songs titled ‘Preme, Prane Gaane’ will be held at Bangladesh National Museum in the capital today.  Indira Gandhi Culture Centre is organising the event as their regular cultural programme at Kobi Sufia Kamal Auditorium of the museum at 06:30 pm. 

Tagore singers Abhijit Majumder, Sukanta Chakraborty and Senjuti Barua will perform on the occasion. 

Abhijit Majumder is a promising Rabindra Sangeet singer from Kolkata who has done his Bachelors and Masters in Rabindra Sangeet and B Ed in Vocal Music from Rabindra Bharati University with 1st class and is now pursuing PhD in Rabindra Sangeet from Visva Bharati University, Santiniketan.

He was awarded National Scholarship by Ministry of Culture, Government of India for “Excellence in Rabindra Sangeet” in 2009. He achieved distinctions in the 4 years’ Certificate Course of “Bangiya Sangeet Parishad” and “Prayag Sangeet Samiti, Allahabad”. He has achieved high distinctions in many high-level music competitions. Now he is a regular artiste of All India Radio.

Sukanta Chakraborty is a promising young Rabindra Sangeet artiste from Bangladesh. He secured 1st class all through in the nine-year certificate course from Chhayanaut and is now a teacher at Chhayanaut.  He is a regular artiste of BTV and Bangladesh Betar. He has given many performances in Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, Jatiya Rabindrasangit Sammilon Parishod etc. and is an active member of Indira Shilpigoshthi of Kolkata.

He did his graduation in Rabindra Sangeet from Rabindra Bharati University with ICCR scholarship securing first class first and is now persuing his post graduation there. He was awarded gold medal in Rabindra Sangeet by the Bangladesh Government for three consecutive years in 2001, 2002 and 2003.

He has secured several prestigious rewards in renowned Rabindra Sangeet competitions organised by Bengal foundation etc.  He is also a founder member of “Na-Gaan gaowar dol”, a platform of a group of enthusiastic young people to exchange their views, experiences, research about different genres of Rabindra Sangeet.

Senjuti Barua is a teacher of Rabindra Sangeet in Chhayanaut. She is also the founder member of “Na-Gaan Gaowar Dol”. She has given many stage performances and shared the stage with veteran Rabindra Sangeet artistes of Bangladesh.

She is also a member of “Jatiya Rabindrasangit Sammilon Parishod”. She had secured all through first position in eight years course in ‘Chhayanaut’. She also secured the position of 1st class 2nd in Jatiya Rabindrasangit Sammilon protijogita” (2000).

All three artistes have trained under eminent Rabindra Sangeet maestros of Bangladesh and India and all three have released several music albums.
