A youth was killed in a mosque where he took shelter on Thursday evening, as some miscreants severely charged him with batons after he took shelter at a mosque at Jashaldia village in Lawhajong upazila.
The deceased was identified as Nurujjaman, 26, son of Hasen Molla of the village, who had been working at Jatrabari fish transport counter.
Quoting locals, officer-in–charge of Lawhajong Police Station Anisur Rahman said Nurujjaman locked into an altercation with one Masum near the Padma Bridge project area and thrashed him.
Later, Masum along with his friends counterattacked with sticks and batons forcing Nurrujjaman to enter the mosque and seek shelter but his opponents followed him there and beat him up mercilessly.
Nuruzzaman died around 7pm on the way to Dhaka hospital, the OC added.
