The ruling Awami League is going to start polls campaign across the country on January 30 much before the next national election likely to be held in December.
The AL has already formed 15 teams comprising party central leaders, including presidium and advisory council members, to conduct the election campaign.
AL president and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will launch party’s polls campaign on January 30 from Sylhet by offering prayers at the shrine of Hazrat Shahjalal. She will also address a public meeting there on the day.
Party insiders say the AL president will hold public meetings in every divisional headquarters to drum up public opinions for party smbol ‘Boat.’ She is scheduled to go to Barisal on February 8.
This is the first time the AL is going to start polls campaign involving presidium members in it ahead of the parliamentary election, party sources said.
The AL teams will make organisational tours to districts, cities, upuazilas and thanas to woo voters by ending internal feuds in the party.
They will attend rallies and meetings in the areas.A party circular signed by AL general secretary Obaidul Quader, said the oganisational secretaries concerned of the party will fix programmes on polls campaign.
AL leaders said the decision to start countrywide organisatioal activities was finalised at a central working committee meeting held at Ganabhaban on January 6.
“That’s why we have formed 15 teams comprising central leaders. This time presidium and advisory council members have been included in the teams,” am AL leader said.
“We will start mass campaign as pre-poll preparations as the next parliamentary election is likely to be held in December this year,” he added.
