Hindu community celebrates Saraswati Puja

The Saraswati Puja is being celebrated with much festivity and fervor across the country today.

Saraswati, the goddess of knowledge, music and arts of Hindus, was born on the day of Vasant Panchami.

On the occasion, students alongside Hindu communities at different institutions arranged the puja and various other programmes.

At Dhaka University, thousands of Hindu devotes thronged the Jagannath Hall playground where the puja is arranged by students of the university's different departments.

The puja is also arranged at Bangladesh Kuwait Moitri Hall, Rokeya Hall, Shamsunnahar Hall and Begum Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall.

The celebrations are marked by colourful puja mandaps where devotees and students offered sweetmeats, fruits, books and other items to the idols of Goddess Saraswati seeking her blessings.

President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina greeted the members of Hindu community on the occasion pointing out the heritage of interfaith harmony and the government's commitment to ensure rights of all people belonging to diverse religion to build Sonar Bangla as dreamt of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Major Hindu temples and schools and other educational institutions including universities stage the festival with traditional gaiety and religious fervor.

The students in particular seek blessings of Goddess Saraswati in their pursuit of knowledge.
